Pacheca Red Wine Val Abraao 75cl

Aging Potentianl & Drinking Windows

  • 2020 Vintage: Now 6 years past its harvest, this vintage is entering its beautiful prime drinking phase. The initially aggressive oak and tight tannins have started to integrate seamlessly. It will drink beautifully from now through 2035.
  • 2021 Vintage: This vintage shows fantastic tension and freshness. It is approachable now with decanting but will hit its true sweet spot starting in 2028, continuing to evolve elegantly until at least 2036.
  • 2023 Vintage: A younger, highly-rated release (94 points from Wine Enthusiast). It is currently tight, highly structured, and wood-forward. It is highly recommended to cellar this bottle, with the ideal drinking window opening in 2028 and extending comfortably through 2038 to 2040.
How the Wine Evolves in the Cellar

  • 0–5 Years (Youth): Dominant primary aromas of fresh violets, dark plums, and distinct eucalyptus or mint notes. The new French oak is highly apparent, offering intense notes of toast, chocolate, and spice. Tannins are muscular and firm, requiring substantial aeration if opened early.
  • 5–10 Years (Peak Maturity): The floral notes evolve from fresh blossoms into dried potpourri. The dark fruit deepens into a compote or fig character, while the oak smooths out into tertiary layers of leather, tobacco, and forest floor truffles. The finish becomes smoother, dominated by a balsamic, savory complexity.
  • 10+ Years (Mellowing): The wine enters an elegant, tertiary phase. Because clay-limestone soils preserve the grape's natural acidity exceptionally well, the wine will not feel tired or flat; instead, it retains a vibrant backbone while the tannins soften into a velvety, seamless texture.
